When the client approached us with a vision to make the exposed brick wall alongside their multi-storey staircase a true design statement, we knew the lighting solution needed to be something special.
Working closely with the client and their architect from the outset, we explored how best to draw out the raw character of the heritage brickwork — the texture, the depth, the imperfections that make it interesting. After testing several options on site, we landed on the ziiLUXE Linear Wall Grazer, which proved to be the standout choice. The grazing technique is unforgiving — it either reveals a wall's character or exposes its flaws — and here, it does exactly what it should: every course of brick comes to life under the wash of warm light.
Before finalising the design, we used DIALux to model the installation across all four levels, testing mounting positions, optic selections and quantities to confirm the result before anything went on the wall. This gave both us and the client confidence in the outcome before a single fixture was installed.
The luminaires were manufactured to the exact length required, spanning the full width of the wall at each level — basement, ground, level 1 and level 2 — mounted precisely at the step-in junction of the wall. Optics and colour temperature were selected specifically to complement the warm tones of the aged brick. Beyond the feature effect, the installation also pulls double duty as task lighting for the staircase, so the solution is as practical as it is striking.
The result is a stairwell that tells a story — where a building's heritage becomes its headline.
